Strap on your seatbelts for a musical ride that will take you over the wall and into Berlin. “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is a musical that is ahead of its time but oh so relevant for today. The story of a one-man, um, err, one-woman show with an explosive rock band created by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Task and directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer will have you waving your arms and singing along.
Tony and Oliver Award nominee Euan Morton not only pushes the envelope but, opens it up to reveal life’s complex and colorful beauty of trying to find one’s other half. Imagine if Dolly Parton starred in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” That’s where the fun starts. “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” has a following. I noticed a patron dressed as Hedwig in the audience.
This tender story is one that everyone can identify with – trying to find your place in this world, dealing with parental bonding issues, relationship trust issues while seeking the Yang to your Ying.
My five words to describe this show: Bling, Electric, Loud, Funny and Happy
How Morton is able to walk, dance and prance in those gold high-heel boots is beyond me. Yes, I’m jealous.
“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is a must see for intelligent grown ups. Its adult theme would not be suited for children or for those with permanently-closed minds. Note: The show does include extended use of strobe lighting.
The show runs through Feb. 12 and ticket may be purchased at www.attpac.org.
